WA Marine Search & Rescue Database (WAMSAR)

WAMSAR as it is commonly referred to, is the Marine Search and Rescue Incident reporting database managed by DFES.

As a Marine Rescue group our obligation is to ensure that a WAMSAR is created and entered into the WAMSAR database within 28 days after an incident.

The information is reviewed by the Department of Transport, WA Police and DFES to make informed decisions regarding Boating safety within WA.

Marine Rescue Whitfords have dedicated volunteers who create and lodge incidents into the database, however it is important that Skippers and Crews submit a WAMSAR for every incident.

WAMSARS are to be created for either

1.      A  Rescue Tow, where the location of the vessel is known; or

2.      A Search and Rescue Activity (SAR), e.g. vessel recovery, body search etc; or

3.      A Training Activity.

The WAMSAR in part summarises

a.       Amount of fuel used

b.      Volunteers who attended

c.       The total “person hours” attributed to either a Rescue Tow, SAR activity, or Training activity.

d.      Total statistics for the group

Marine Rescue Whitfords should submit either a Rescue Tow WAMSAR, a SAR WAMSAR or a TRAINING WAMSAR
